Sometimes life is sweet.
Ripe figs fall into my palm.
Sweet wine melts upon my tongue.
Lovers bring gifts of kisses and kindness.
The scent of honey wafts upon the breeze.
Rose petals litter the path to my home.
My heart cracks open, and the whole world falls in.
From an astrological standpoint, August was rough. One factor comprising its jagged contours was Venus’ transit through Virgo. Not only did Venus have to pass through the sign of her fall, but she also opposed Saturn and squared Mars, spending four days besieged by the malefics. However, on August 29, Venus leapt gracefully into Libra, giving us all something to be grateful for.
In the sign of the Scales, Venus is an empress enthroned, joyous and perfectly poised. Exuding the beauty of autumn, Venus in Libra manifests in the majesty of maples ablaze in shades of auburn and amber, their crimson leaves rippling in the winds of change. Her words are honeycomb, her movements a fragrant breeze, her caresses are chrysanthemums, and her eyes are anemones. With perfumed palms, she plucks apples from orchards while weighing matters of fairness and justice. Deftly, she draws all things closer to equilibrium.
And now in summer’s halcyon days, Venus moves into a trine with Jupiter in Gemini that perfects today (September 14) at 10:34 PM Pacific time. When connected via trine, Venus and Jupiter’s blessings are blended smoothly and served with temperance. Both planets value unity. They join what has been severed and gather many in an all-encompassing whole. Expect social experiences that ride the line between sensuality and spiritual fulfillment, desire and deep meaning, pleasure and purpose.
This aspect comes on the eve of eclipse season; a Pisces lunar eclipse looms only a few days away on September 17. But despite distant dragon snarls, let us enjoy a delicious weekend. Let us rejoice with friends and family. Let us savor the sweet fruits of summer’s harvest and dance in summer’s fading glory. Living isn’t always easy, but at least sometimes it's sweet.

Todays’ featured track is “Living is Easy” by Agriculture out of LA, California. Self-described as “ecstatic black metal,” Agriculture seeks to use black metal’s most mournful elements and transmute them into an expression of transcendent joy. Recently, I saw them live when they passed through town with Ragana and I was blown away. Musically, it's an erotic cacophony, a blissful explosion that borders on mania. Guitarist and singer Daniel Meyer paced back and forth like a caged animal as passages swung wildly between melodic black metal, jazz, minimalist ambience, and plaintive snatches of verse that referenced Buddhist stories. By all means, check ‘em out and support your favorite artists!
